Sylvester was b. June 29, 1837, d. Mar. 23, 1908. He was born, lived and died on

The farm was settled by his gr. father Shubael Reed and family when they came
from Tolland , Conn. in early 1800s. Shubael Reed's wife, Mehitable Hale was
daughter of John Hale and gr. daughter of Daniel Knowlton: also niece of Col.

present site of Columbia University.
The Hales were from Ashford Conn. Irvin E. Reed is descended from Capt.

Harrington. The Reeds and Hales are buried in Butternut Valley Cemetery
while Capt. Thomas Aylsworth and his wife Martha are buried in Holdredge
Cemetery on the Cornell Farm located between Garrattsville and West Burlington
owned and occupied by Ralph Rose and sister Ethelyn Rose (as of 1962) and
descendents of the former owner Peleg Cornell.
My addendum info: Pvt. John Hale and his wife Mehitable were the parents of about 10
children. Some stayed behind in Conn. and several relocated to NY. I have visited their gravesites several times. John Hale was a cousin of Nathan Hale.
